This Gold Coast bathroom renovation is a showcase of our capabilities. It involved a wall removal, an integrated dual renovation (main & ensuite bathroom), a high-contrast solution (charcoal tiles & light timber vanity) and a variety of other interesting features. It was a satisfying project to work on and complete. Renovation Overview
This renovation involved the removal a wall (in the main bathroom) to open the room up for a more spacious, modern feel. Changing the layout of your rooms is always a possibility. We can discuss the pros, cons and implications of these types of changes with you to help guide you toward a suitable resolution for your renovation. Here are a couple of ‘before’ pictures to show what the bathroom looked like before we got started.
Colour Scheme
This bathroom is leveraged aesthetically by contrast. This contrast is created by a combination of 2 light and 2 dark colours:
Light Colours:
- Light timber (vanity cabinet)
- White (basins & bathtubs)
Dark Colours
- Charcoal – the dominant colour (tiles)
- Black (highlights such as the tapware, trims, controls, etc)
It’s not complicated, and the outcome is very satisfactory. It’s also a concept that can be duplicated, and adjusted, to achieve a similar result with different nuances.
Multiple Room Renovations
Our projects often involve a renovation of more than one room. Undertaking a multi-room renovation like this one (main bathroom and ensuite) is all in a day’s work for the Armrock Constructions team. What we’ve achieved here is two rooms that are related, without being exactly identical. This creates a sense of nuanced relatedness.
They have a distinctive look and feel that makes it clearly obvious they are part of a broader renovation vision, without being exactly the same.
Charcoal Porcelain Tiles
The main feature of this renovation is the tiles. We’ve used 600x600mm charcoal porcelain tiles for a great result. These tiles form the background for the whole bathroom, and feature lovely random marble-like swirls that create an engaging albeit neutral background.

Circular Mirrors
Circular mirrors are featured in quite a few of our Gold Coast renovation projects. Their round shape serves a couple of important purposes. It creates a strong focus on the person using the mirror – like a picture in a frame – that isn’t realised with a larger rectangular mirror. Also, circular mirrors are a useful bridging device in bathroom aesthetics. Because the elements in the bathroom are different shapes, sizes and colours, a judiciously placed circular mirror is an effective way of helping to link them all together!

Tiled Niches
Tiled niches solve the functional problem of where to put your shampoo and other bathroom items. They also add a degree of depth to the bathroom. In this case, they help to integrate the room by adding a dimensional, horizontal black highlight linking both sides of the room.
What’s really cool here is that while the ensuite doesn’t feature any tiled niches, it does utilise a recessed tiled solution (a nib wall) on which items can be stored, that also creates a visual relationship to the tiled niches in the main bathroom. This is the type of non-overt nuance that helps to create a relationship between the two rooms.

Black Trim
Black trim is the highlight that holds this picture together. It’s used in a variety of places through the double-room renovation – for example, in the tapware, shower rails, tile inset drain, shower heads, and tiled niches. It makes sense, given that this room’s dominant colour is charcoal (tiles) to use a black trim, since black is the stronger version of the dominant colour. Because the black is used very minimally, it doesn’t overwhelm the rooms, rather, provides a serious of visual cues to inform the layouts and link elements together.
Wall Hung Toilet
The ensuite in this renovation features a wall-hung toilet, with in-wall cistern. This is a great approach for an ensuite and is an effective and concise incorporation. The ability to determine if choices like this are relevant in your bathroom renovation can be clarified by our team – we know what will work, and can help guide you to the best outcome for your project.
