Tiling Solution

These tiles have a long, thin horizontal disposition and they’re a non-conventional approach. Because of the soft colour tone, they create a pleasing, restful impression. Armrock’s tilers ensure tiles are laid as they should be, equipping the project for the installation of the vanity and shower.

Final Result

Our client has opted for a pre-fabricated vanity in this renovation. The circular mirror enhances the tiling for a mystical, relaxed vibe in this newly fresh, cleanly renovated Gold Coast bathroom.

The Renovation Begins

The renovation begins with the demolition of the previous bathroom. As you can see below, the previous vanity unit was limited in scope and vision.

Bathroom Tiling

In keeping with the modern aesthetic, this bathroom uses 450x450mm square grey tiles for the floor. Symmetry – Not Always The Best Option.

In interior design, symmetry always appears as a safe option – the thinking is that if everything is the same, then less things can go wrong! However, bringing some asymmetrical thinking into the design approach can yield great results, especially in bathroom renovations.

This renovation project, undertaken on the Gold Coast by Armrock Constructions, includes an asymmetrical shower solution – unlike the conventional square or rectangular shapes usually described by showers, this one uses the shape of an irregular polygon.

Although this is a matter of necessity in the case of this renovation, it’s interesting to see the value that it adds to the bathroom and also to the argument of increasing asymmetrical aspects in general.

Demolition

Every renovation starts with demolition. By removing the old fixtures and fittings, new possibilities are quickly realised. In the ‘before’ pictures for this renovation, you can see how the previous vanity featured a long shelf going past the toilet. We’ve opted to remove this feature and open up the space around the toilet and within the room for our finished result.

You can tell this shower is going to be a hard one to leave! This type of solution looks great and functions well too. Within this Gold Coast shower space, there is plenty of room to move. Finally there is a neat glass and silver rack for accessories such as soap and shampoo.

Before the Renovation

Before the renovation commenced, the vanity, steps and bathtub took up a whole lengthwise side of the bathroom. It was a cluttered collection of fixtures and fittings that in conjunction with the old tiling and uniform colour scheme created a highly dense visual tangle. For this Gold Coast bathroom, it was time for an upgrade!

Something interesting to point out about this design is the proximity of the colour tone between the floor and the front of the vanity. This gives the impression of the vanity rising up, and accentuates the benchtop, basins, tapware and broad mirror through contrast.

Showers create a large visual footprint because they occupy significant vertical space. This semi-frameless option diminishes this visual strength and allows the shower to blend into the room better. Because the tiling and walls of the shower consistent with the rest of the bathroom, it seems almost as if this shower is not there at all!

Having removed the bath from this room, the cistern is no longer squeezed into a corner as an afterthought. It’s still in the same position, so no plumbing relocation was required.

The solution for this renovation included a double tile insert drain – a square drain for the main bathroom and a horizontal drain for the shower. This solution gives the drains a minimal visual footprint.
