Tiled Bathroom Niches

Tiled bathroom niches are an increasingly popular solution storage solution for common bathing items adjacent to showers and bathtubs. Our Gold Coast projects frequently feature the addition of a niche (or two) because they work well and look fantastic too. Hexagonal Tiled Features

What makes this bathroom a standout is the discrete application of some tiled variations to create visual depth, interest, and integration in the room. The walls are predominantly a gloss-white rectangular tile (300x600mm) which is enhanced by a feature-wall of gloss-white tiles with a hexagonal impression. It’s a subtle distinction, but its enhanced by the addition of two tiled niches with stainless-steel framing and marbled hexagonal tiles with high-contrast grout-lines for a couple of complimentary features.

Design Principal: Repetition

Repetition – it’s all about repeating elements through your design to create relationships. Every time you think about incorporating a new element (fixture, fitting, etc) pause and consider how it relates to other elements. Repetition can be used to different extents to guide the visual flow of the room.

Simple, Classy Colour Scheme

This bathroom utilises a winning colour scheme in grey and white tones. This combination is suitable for any modern bathroom, and it’s popular in many of our Gold Coast projects. By using this simple colour scheme, you can accessories with towels, plants, and lighting to create a variety of colourful and interesting effects, if you wish.

Free Standing Bathtub Option

Free-Standing Bathtub with Tiled Feature Wall

A real feature of this bathroom is the effect of the free-standing bathtub. Although this bathroom is not especially large, this free-standing tub solution creates the impression of visual space. It’s a functional addition that’s easy on the eyes.

Tile Insert Strip Drain

These are popular with our clients and there’s a good reason why. In a tiled floor there’s no reason to make a feature out of the waste. In this beautiful bathroom renovation, we used a rectangular tile inset strip waste for the shower and a similar square effect for the main bathroom waste. Seamless style means you can focus on the parts of the bathroom you really want to.

Double Vanity and Plumbing

Double-Basin Prefabricated Bathroom Vanity

In this renovation, our clients opted for a pre-fabricated double-basin vanity. Because the previous plumbing structure was built to serve a single basin, this renovation included advancement of the plumbing water & waste for the double option to work. The plumbing is neatly tucked away inside the vanity.

Toilet Renovation

Renovating this toilet we have kept the same theme going with 300 x 600 tiling on the floors and walls. The wall-mounted vanity is a great way to create some extra space in this small room. To make this happen we needed to move some plumbing, but the functional result is an independently operable toilet. Topped off by some gloss-white venetian blinds, who wouldn’t want to spend some time in this room?

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is an important step in any bathroom renovation. In this image, the waterproofing for the new shower is underway. Waterproofing is an essential step to ensure water doesn’t escape beyond areas designed to handle it.

Tiling

This bathroom has opted for a full floor and wall tiling solution. Because this type of approach does not have any tonal or textural contrast, it creates a dimensional aesthetic in which fixtures and fittings are seamlessly able to exist, guided by the grid-lines of the tiles.

Shower Head and Soap Rack

This simple mobile shower head solution looks great and does the trick. We’ve teamed it up with a concise glass and silver rack for accessories such as soap and shampoo. These minimal and functional features allow the tiling and frameless shower screen to do the talking in this bathroom renovation.

Tiling and Wastes

When the tiling is a standout feature, then keep it going! This floor drain enables the shower tiling to incorporate a functional aspect without major interruption to its aesthetic.

Finally, a square tile insert waste for the bathroom floor to compliment the shower drain. This type of solution is always worth considering because it never fails to look great, as it works in effortlessly with your existing tiling solution.

Subtle Entry Details

As soon as you step in the doorway of this bathroom, you know you’re into something special. The deep blue-greys in the door bounce off the warm timber frame for a positive transition into this expansive bathroom.

Take a look at the colour palette from the entrance. These darker tones create a backdrop against which white features such as the cistern and bathtub generate an emphatic visual appearance.

Cube Vanity Solution

This innovative vanity breaks away from pre-conceived vanity ideas to create a cube-like feature for the basin. It’s dead simple and it’s always going to be nice and tidy – no collection of clutter for this vanity! With its central location, it also serves to divide the room between the cistern and bathtub.

Sometimes in renovations, decisions are made for you – utilising this position for the vanity, you can see how the width is constrained by the presence of the windows on each side. We’ve turned this into a strength here by condensing the vanity for an emphatic statement.

In this image, you can see how the cistern, basin and bathtub are linked together by their white colour. This elevates the room and accentuates these features against the darker tones of the walls and floor. Because the bathroom has got two tall, louvred windows, a fabulous relationship occurs in which the eye is drawn up towards the twin towers of light!

Free Standing Bathtub

This free-standing bathtub enjoys the benefit of natural light from the louvres directly behind. It joins with the open shower to create a wet area and designated bathing zone on this end of the bathroom.

5 Star Shower

Rounding out this fantastic bathroom is the frameless shower. Featuring a large rainfall showerhead & handheld combo, it’s simple and elegant. The oversized wall tiles to all the talking here. This shower solution is functional, looks fantastic, and finishes off this 5-star bathroom renovation.

Design Tip: Contrast

This bathroom creates a strong contrast between the white tiles, the dark grout-lines and the black tapware. Black and white combinations are classical and timeless. With white as the dominant colour, the design can easily be adapted to a variety of applications. The addition of a natural component (benchtop) softens the design and makes it more accessible.

Checked Success Niche

A popular option with our Gold Coast clients is the incorporation of tiled niches into showers or walls. This approach is fast becoming a signature inclusion for many of our bathroom projects.

Tapware

In this renovation, the tapware, door handles and accessories are in matching matt-black. Currently, this type of approach is popular and is an easy resolution towards an integrated bathroom style. We’re often doing black (matt or gloss) or silver highlights in this way.

Design Tip: Repetition

Repeating the black tapware and fixtures in this bathroom provides a visual footprint that guides the eye through the room for continuity and to help organise the elements visually. By repeating elements in your bathroom renovation design, it creates a sense of visual expectation as the eye travels around the room.

Checked Success Shower

This shower incorporates a black framed solution to match other bathroom accessories. It’s all about those fabulous subway tiles here, showcased through the glass for a shower that’s simple yet appealing. This bathroom colour palette uses classical black and white to strong effect, but this strong palette is softened with the organic timber tones. It’s a winner!

Custom Armrock Vanity

The gloss-white finish features matt-black fittings and tapware which link the unit to other parts of the room, and a purposeful rectangular mirror to compliment the lines in the room.

Light Grey Bathroom Renovation

Large Rectangular Mirror

A design approach that works is to accentuate the shape of a bathroom with a suitable mirror. This room is long and rectangular, and the large rectangular mirror promotes and expands this shape. In addition to helping to connect the custom vanity unit with the rest of the room, the rectangular shape gives a nod to the retro aesthetic of this renovation.

Simple White Cistern

This bathroom renovation demonstrates how an unostentatious approach isn’t necessary to get a great result. The cistern is simple and fits in with the rest of the room, and that’s enough. In this image you can also see the 600 x 300mm dark-grey tiles which make up the bathroom floor.

Custom Bathroom Vanity

Armrock specialises in custom vanity design, manufacture and installation. They’re usually the centrepiece of our completed renovations. This vanity unit confidently throws some retro style into the aesthetic with a large, laminated benchtop folded for an OTT effect. The handles, tapware and basin also reference this style – adding interest to the room.

Vanity, Shower, Cistern Layout

This bathroom was made to be used unimpeded. With no shower screen, movement is free and easy between stations. Because there is no enclosure, it’s interesting to see how the vanity and cistern are linked by the shower tapware and tiled shower-niche.

Free-Standing Tub

Sitting in-line with the 600x300mm dark-grey tiles, this free-standing tub is in the right place. Perfectly positioned next to the window, you can enjoy some filtered natural light during the day while bathing.

Wide Angle View

This shot gives a great view of the effect achieved with the tiled feature-wall. This wall is the key to the whole bathroom and creates a link between the darker floor-tiles and the fixtures and fittings within. It also acts as a giant splashback – note there isn’t one on the vanity. Tiling matters, and Armrock’s tilers always do a fabulous job. Learn more about tiling solutions here.

Open Shower

When it’s your bathroom, you can design it your way! An open shower means the whole bathroom is yours to enjoy freely, without feeling cooped up or enclosed. Perfect for balmy Gold Coast summer days!
